Who am I?
I'm religious. I'm an Orthodox Christian, and even though I'm deeply flawed at practicing it, I firmly believe it's the one (100%) true religion. Don't surf away yet-- I have lots of friends that aren't Orthodox or even Christian; my religion isn't about judging or excluding people, and I don't "argue" religion with anyone. I do, however, love to talk/write about faith and ask people questions about their own spiritual journeys.
I'm married. Yeah, I've been married for more than three years now so you could say that I'm pretty much an expert at the whole thing. Of course, if you said that, you'd be completely wrong. My wife Arlie and I are still learning about how to really, sacrificially love each other and to live up to the ideals of Christian marriage.
I'm conservative. Contrary to the leftist media's propaganda, conservatives aren't greedy, racist, or ignorant. I'm a conservative because I believe that private citizens, companies, and churches do things like feeding the poor better, faster, and cheaper than the government. I think it's counterproductive to over-tax the top producers in the economy because their spending creates more jobs for everyone, and penalizing economic wealth is a disincentive for personal enterprise. I don't think that the "wall of separation" between Church and State was intended to exclude people of faith from the public sphere, or to silence public religious expressions. Freedom of religion should not amount to freedom from religion. Finally, I am conservative because I think there are still great things about American society despite the fact that there is much that could be improved.
I'm fat. I struggle with weight and physical fitness. Really it's like the main thing I deal with, because it's totally my fault (unlike some people who may have other reasons why they're fat). Me being fat comes from the fact that I am lazy and gluttonous (both sins in Orthodoxy), which also makes me a hypocrite. So anyway, I'm working on it.
I'm a law student. I just finished my first year and I can honestly say that it was HARD. If I had studied that much in undergraduate school (btw, I went to Marshall University) I would have easily had straight A's. Law School demands unwavering commitment of both time and talent. It's so cliche to say this, but it really does teach you to think differently. Law school has also done me the enormous favor of freeing me from the delusion that I'm brilliant ('cause I ain't).
That having been said, welcome to the LJ version of my life. Feel free to friend me and comment and all that. I generally will friend you back at least once I see a comment. I only unfriend people that either constantly post crap (don't worry my crap tolerance is pretty high) or people that are mean-- that constantly want to argue or criticize other people.
